Mermaid Diagram Editor for Confluence

How to Edit Mermaid Diagrams in Confluence Cloud Without Writing Code

Mermaid is the easiest way to keep a diagram next to the docs it explains. A few lines of text become a flowchart, a sequence diagram or an ER diagram, and any AI tool can write them for you.

Then the diagram lands in Confluence Cloud, and two problems show up:

  1. Confluence Cloud doesn't render Mermaid. A Mermaid code block is just text.
  2. Only people who know the syntax can change it. The PM who wants to rename one box asks an engineer, or leaves it wrong.

The usual workarounds

None of these lets someone who doesn't know Mermaid fix a diagram.

We built an app for this

Mermaid Diagram Editor for Confluence puts the diagram on the page and lets you edit it by clicking or in code. Both stay in sync.

  1. Install it from the Atlassian Marketplace. Free for up to 10 users.
  2. On a page, type /mermaid and pick the macro. Start from a template or paste your Mermaid (AI output works too).
  3. Double-click a box to rename it, click + to add a step. The code updates by itself.

The editor: Mermaid code on the left, clickable diagram on the right

That's it. Readers see the diagram, and clicking it opens full screen with zoom, so big diagrams stay readable.

A large architecture diagram in full screen

The same diagram zoomed in: labels stay sharp

Why teams pick it

Good to know: visual editing works on flowcharts. Sequence, ER, Gantt and the other types render and are edited as code.

FAQ

Does Confluence Cloud support Mermaid natively? No. A Mermaid code block shows as text. You need an app or an exported image.

Is there a Mermaid live editor inside Confluence? Yes. Ours shows the code and the diagram side by side and updates as you type.

Does my diagram data leave Confluence? Not with our app. For any other app, check whether it needs an external account or server.
